Bryophyte Workshop Results

Last week, our very own David Chamberlain hosted a fantastic bryophyte workshop for students at the Water of Leith Conservation Centre. Students from across university year groups came together to learn about different groups of mosses, hornworts, and liverworts. From their life cycles to their taxonomy, habitats to identifying traits – there was a wealth of information to be gained!

The workshop also provided a great opportunity to look at different species of bryophytes under the microscope, where you could see a wide range of unique and complex structures in amazing detail. The students also got to take part in an exercise to identify bryophyte species using a key, which let them put the new knowledge they had gained to good use. They also learned a lot about the importance of bryophytes and the insights they can share about the habitats they are found in.
