Title: Perthsire Plants
Abstract: In December 2024 I published ‘The Special Plants of East Perthshire’, describing the topology and geology of the vice-county and then giving short accounts of all its nationally-designated plant species and those that are locally rare or scarce. My talk will first of all describe how I came to be here and then describe the background to the floral richness of the area and pick out some of the most interesting of the species in the book, as well as relating something of my experience as a vice-county recorder.

BIO: After growing up in the south of England I had a career with RSPB, which brought me full-time to Perthshire in 1982 as a reserve warden, manager and then habitats and species adviser. During this time I made it my business to become as familiar as possible with as much of the natural history of the reserves with which I was involved, especially the plants. I retired early to run my own environmental business, and became the BSBI recorder for East Perthshire in 2002.
