Common plants – lawns and parks (part 2)
These plant species are commonly found growing in grass on lawns and public places like parks. Keep an eye out in other places, though, because they grow in other habitats too.
Silene dioica (red campion)
Pink or deep pink flowers
Leaf bases join around stem
Family: Caryophyllaceae
Dactylis glomerata (cock’s-foot)
Tall, tufted grass
‘Clumped’ flowerheads
Flattened flower stalks
Family: Poaceae
Trifolium repens (white clover)
Heads of small, white flowers
Leaves with 3 leaflets (trifoliate)
Often have pale lines on leaflets
Family: Fabaceae
Rumex obtusifolius (broad-leaved dock)
Basal rosette of large leaves
Grows taller during flowering
Spikes of tiny, green flowers
Family: Polygonceae
