The winner of the Student Thesis Prize for 2023
A strong set of entries was submitted this year from University of Aberdeen, University of Glasgow, University of Edinburgh and SRUC/RBGE. The winner is horticulture student Scott Galloway (SRUC/RBGE) for his thesis “Phylogeny of Bergenia: a genomic approach”
The judges said
“This was a very professional and thorough study, well worth publishing. The presentation is excellent and clear. The author shows excellent understanding of the literature, providing good reviews of previous work in the field, and a strong discussion of the present results. Important new results are presented outlining a proposed phylogeny for Bergenias with good supporting evidence, based on excellent molecular data.
Many congratulations to Scott who will be presented with his prize and a certificate at the BSS lecture on 16th November. An abstract of each of the entries will be published in the next BSS Newsletter.
