News from Friends of Glasgow Botanic Gardens
We are recruiting for garden guides for the coming summer season!
The Friends of GBG (FofGBG) exists to advance the education of the public by supporting and furthering the activities of the Gardens as a centre for education research conservation and amenity.
A number of members of BSS live in the West of Scotland and some are likely members of FofGBG. Membership is open to all. Currently we are recruiting for garden guides for the coming summer season.
We have been leading tours of The Kibble Palace over the winter months. This historic ‘A’ listed glasshouse contains a large collection of southern hemisphere plants including the national collection of tree ferns some of which could be up to 300 years old. There is also an extensive display of insectivorous plants. Members of BSS would be welcome to join any tour . They start at 11am and 2 pm on Thursdays, meeting at the fish pond in The Kibble.
Our volunteer group is around ten guides trained by The Friends and Garden staff. We are currently recruiting additional members for the summer and soon to start a training /refresher course. New guides will join our experienced guides for talks and walks round the collections. We plan to meet once or twice monthly for a morning. Our guides lead one or two tours each month, more if they are keen.
