Student Eco Ceilidh 2024!

What better way to spend a Tuesday night than with a ceilidh! Better yet, an eco ceilidh organised in partnership with eco and environmental based societies at the University of Edinburgh.

On Tuesday 26th March, student members from the Botanical Society of Scotland, Dirty Weekenders, Edinburgh University Green Party, Palaeontology Society and Permaculture Gardening Society gathered at Pleasance for an evening of socialising and dancing. The hall was decorated with ivy, collected and dried by Permaculture Gardening Society and fairy lights to finish it off. Students danced the night away to the traditional ceilidh dances including, The Gay Gordons and the common favourite of Strip the Willow, before finishing the evening with Auld Lang Syne.

After the dancing finished, the raffle prizes were handed out. Prizes included books such as “Cornerstones- Wild Forests that can change the world” by Benedict MacDonald and “The Mountains are High” by Alec Ash, fossils and chocolate. A total of £200 was raised from the raffle and this money will be donated to the charity Trees for Life- a rewilding charity based in Scotland committed to creating large-scale environmental change in the Scottish Highlands.
